Dr. Baune grew up in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. He chose chiropractic as a life career because, once when he was very young and again when he was in high school, something happened to him that changed his life forever. As an infant, he suffered with severe asthma. He was in and out of hospitals and medical offices, and constantly on medication. He had to sleep in an inclined position and someone had to stay up with him so that, when he couldn’t breath, they could turn on steam or rush him to the hospital. At one point, at about 1 year old, his parents were told that there was nothing more that anyone could do and that he had about one month to live. It was at this point that they decided to take him to a chiropractor. Dr. Jones, in Torrance, discovered that his top vertebra, the atlas, was jammed up against his skull from a birth trauma. This was causing interference with the delicate nerves that, among other things, control the lungs and entire respiratory system, causing them to dysfunction. Dr. Jones gave him his first adjustment and, shortly afterwards, the young Dr. Baune began to cough up large amounts of phlegm and mucous. Within a week, and a few more adjustments, he was breathing normally with no signs of asthma. Dr. Baune grew up with regular chiropractic care and enjoyed a very healthy, asthma-free life, thanks to chiropractic. Now for the second part of the story. In high school, with no signs of any respiratory problems, he focused his life on competitive athletics. While playing football, he was injured and developed a serious condition known as a “disc herniation”. He suffered from constant pain in his lower back and right leg. Over time, he couldn’t run, and walking became difficult. After considering surgery (the only option, according to the surgeon) he again turned to chiropractic. It worked so well for him, and he was so impressed with the other miracles he saw in the doctor’s office, that he eventually went to chiropractic college himself. He now dedicates himself to helping others find the cause of their ailments and seeking out natural, holistic solutions to health problems.

He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1979 with honors. During his internship and residency at the Palmer Clinic, he received several awards for clinical excellence and was appointed to a supervising and teaching position.

Since he began practice he has advanced his skills in many post doctorate areas including neurology, traumatic spinal injuries from auto and work accidents, sports therapies, exercise rehabilitation for the spine and neck, nutrition, thermography and more. Some of the chiropractic techniques he has studied and is proficient in are Palmer Specific Upper Cervical, Palmer Diversified, Carrick Technique, Thompsom Technique, Gonstead Technique, Activator Technique, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Manipulation Under Anesthesia, and many more.

In 1995, he completed his post-doctorate degree in Chiropractic Neurology, focusing on optimum brain performance, brain rehabilitation and recovery from traumatic brain injury, stroke, and chronic degenerative neurological disorders using chiropractic techniques. In 1997, he became one of a small group of doctors who achieved Diplomat status with the American Chiropractic Neurology Board, and is now a member of the American Chiropractic Association Council on Neurology. In 2000, he sat on a committee that developed the cut score (level of competency required for candidates to pass) for the national neurology board examinations. This process helped this board achieve national recognition and accreditation through the National Organization for Competency Assurance. He studied advanced brain-wave neurofeedback under Dr. Victoria Ibric, M.D. in Pasadena, California. He also assisted Dr. Carrick during research and helped behind the scenes during the filming of the PBS special “Awakening The Brain”.

In 1992, he was a pioneer in obtaining hospital privileges for chiropractic doctors in the United States. He was trained and certified in manipulation under anesthesia and is a member of the International Society of Police Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Public Health Association and has been nominated for Chairman of the Chiropractic section several times.

In 1985, he was certified in sports therapy and exercise rehabilitation and became one of the first doctors in the United States to utilize the Gymnastic Balls for spinal strengthening. Along with Traudl Weber, a physical therapist from Germany, he co-created the “Better Back and Beyond” Gymnastic Ball exercise program that was taught in his office. He later went on to develop, with his sister, Dr. Pamela Barron, the Total Back Fitness video series that teaches these dynamic ball exercises. This video series is sold in many stores, doctors’ offices, web sites and catalogues throughout the United States and Canada. (www.totalbackfitness.com)

He is married and enjoys a happy family life with his wife Nancy and children Christina, Shawn and Kyle. His family and Christian faith are the source of great joy and inspiration in his life. He loves being outdoors, hiking and discovering new trails. He also enjoys playing tennis, riding bicycles and working with his hands in gardens, woodworking and around his office and home.
